Baseball Hall Of Famers

Major League Baseball elected 3 new Hall of Fame players yesterday: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and Frank Thomas.  With those 3 and the managers already elected by the Veteran's Committee, Cooperstown is going to be bustling in July (which is a good thing, considering how last year was such a dud).  Of course, yesterday's voting didn't come without some controversy.  Some people didn't vote for certain players, causing them to fall short of election or fall off the ballot entirely.  I understand why there's such uproar in the baseball community, especially being a fan of baseball and many of the the players on the ballot, but all of baseball's problems regarding the Hall of Fame can't be solved in one day, so let's not argue about things we can't change.  Let's celebrate the work of three great baseball players.  "The Big Hurt" Frank Thomas is one of the greatest 1st baseman and right handed hitters of all time, while Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine's resume's speak for themselves.  I'm just one person, but I want to say Congratulations!

Bill and Jalen

When it comes to first impression's, like most, I don't make them the be all-end all when it comes to meeting new people.  But when it comes to TV personalities, that's a different story.  Usually when I look at them, I can instantly tell whether I like or hate them.  And because of my stubbornness, my views rarely change.  That was the case with Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose in the past.  Years ago, I told my friend I couldn't stand anything about Bill Simmons from the way he looked, his voice, to his commentary and work on ESPN and on podcasts.  While for Jalen Rose, I didn't like him because of his attitude, such as with the Grant Hill "Uncle Tom" incident.

After a few years though, my feelings changed.  Bill Simmons wasn't the guy I disliked anymore.  I thought he was funny, well-spoken, and not to mention passionate about his work, which you can tell from his fan perspective.  The same goes for Jalen Rose.  Like many, that Duke comment was taken out of context at the time, and I recognize Jalen Rose for who he is.  He was part of the Fab 5 and NBA for years, and now he's giving his perspective, which is very interesting.  Not to mention that he's just as funny as Bill Simmons, so when you get them together, you have comic gold.  That's why I had to post about these two.  I've been watching their NBA preview videos for the past couple of weeks and they're so entertaining.  They have hilarious clips to describe team mindsets, "Clairvoyant Bill", and "Champagning and Campaigning", all while talking about the NBA seriously, which I need as I wait for the season to start.

If anyone is interested, 3 videos I recommend watching from the NBA preview countdown are the Boston Celtics (#24), Denver Nuggets (#13), and the Detroit Pistons (#12).  The Nuggets one has the funniest moment I've seen when Bill Simmons attempts a Javale McGee and eats... Well, you'll have to see and find out.  You won't be disappointed though.  All I can say after this is, how did I ever not like these guys?  They're the best, and now part of my daily routine.

ESPYS Opening Monologues

When you ask most people what the ESPYS are, most of them are probably confused by the question, which is understandable considering unless you follow sports or watch ESPN, you won't have a clue what the ESPYS are.  For those of you who don't know, the ESPYS are an award show hosted annually by ESPN to honor sports accomplishments from the past year.  Usually, they're such a drag since they're just an excuse to see celebrities, but occasionally, the opening monologues are hilarious.  That all depends on who the host of the event is though.  This past year, it was Jon Hamm from Mad Men, who did an admirable job following previous hosts who were failures, but the best host of all time has to be Justin Timberlake back  in 2008.  The ESPYS are not an important event compared to real life events, but the opening monologues with those guys was hilarious, which is why I wanted to post the videos to end the night.  Like I said before, they may not be that important, but laughter is necessary to live a healthy life.  With that in mind, here are the ESPYS opening monologues from 2008 and from this past year.

Frank Caliendo Impersonation

I'm usually a person who doesn't post humor videos because I find most of them stupid or unappealing, but I had to post a video of a Frank Caliendo (from MAD TV) impersonation that I found hilarious, which was one of Mel Kiper Jr., which had me laughing so hard that tears were coming out of my eyes.  You may not think they're funny, but if you follow and love sports like I do, I think you'll laugh.

This Weather...

The weather this Winter has been ridiculous in Boston and in other parts of Massachusetts I have been in the previous month.  If it's not snowing, there's freezing rain, cloudiness, or a sun that seems to be taunting everyone as they go outside.  I despise the fact that the sun is out, yet it is freezing outside because of the wind chill.  Like today for instance, I think it was 8 degrees in the morning, but -13 degrees counting the wind chill, which is ridiculous.  Why should people have to go to school or work in weather that makes it so hard to commute?  For me, the weather has been so bad that my hands dry out and bleed, or I have trouble breathing.  I try and bundle up, but I still feel like I'm getting burned to death.  It sucks, but this is weather in Massachusetts.  It could be worst I suppose; I could be living in Wisconsin, Colorado, or Alaska, where the temperature is really bad and unpredictable. 

Until things get better, all I can do is wait the six months til Summer.  It's not my most favorite season, but anything has to be better than feeling like you're going to die every morning when you get out of bed.
