Dim Sum
In honor of my grandma's birthday a few weeks ago, and Mother's Day and Father's Day not too far away, my siblings and I decided to take them all out for dim sum in Chinatown today. Dim sum, for those of you who don't know, is when you eat and pick food being wheeled in carts, with the tab being marked by what you order. To be honest, it's not my favorite way of eating because I don't like always like the food, can't speak the language, and you can lose track of the tab, but my grandma likes it, so I was willing to do it for her. And luckily, it turned out to be a great family gathering. There was some arguing and fighting (like there always is, it seems), but it was good to get together and spend time with family; it really makes you appreciate what you have in life, and shows why dim sum truly does mean "Touch the Heart"!

FAMILY
As I sit here trying to blog, there are so many thoughts that go through my mind. I'm thinking about class tomorrow and what that will be like since something big is going to happen. I'm thinking about next week and all the essays and tests that will begin. I'm also thinking about my friends I love who aren't with me right now. But one thing for sure I'm thinking of is my family, who I miss and can't stop thinking about.
It seems obvious that a person would think about their family since everyone says it's the most important thing in the world, and while I believe that's true (besides maybe friendship and love), I don't think about it positively all the time. Sometimes I dislike the fact I have to share a room with my brother, how my sisters nag, and how my parents often ask me to do irrational things, but at the end of the day, I miss them. I miss them because I'm away from them, and because of everything we've been through together. Also, even if I did get what I wanted, like my own room, or being a famous writer, I'd still feel lonely. Yes, I'd have friends and potentially relationships, but they can only go so far. They didn't know me when I was a year old, and didn't grow with me through the childhood experiences. Even though I'm grateful and spend more time with my friends, I always remember where I came from, and am proud to say who I am and how I feel (even though it's hard sometimes). I guess I need to change and be more open, but one thing I know will never change is my love for my family. We have our ups and downs, but that's normal, which is why I hope everything we have lasts a long time.

Being There For My Parents
Yesterday, my parents had the second and maybe last yard sale they'll ever have. I say "last" because they barely made any money, which may have them rethinking yard sales in the future. I was right in how I thought things would turn out, but I didn't want to be right because in a perfect world, I would have wanted us to succeed and have yard sales in the future. I know that sounds crazy, especially with how much I've bad mouthed yard sales, but the older I've gotten, the more time I want to spend with my parents, whether it's at a yard sale or just being at home helping out.
I know I'm in the minority in what I'm saying, but I guess I'm traditional. My parents helped their parents out the older they became, and I guess since I'm older now, I want to be a good son to them and help out anyway they can. The mindset of many people my age is that they cannot wait to move out, and while I understand where they're coming from, I don't think it's that bad. Sure, parents can rag on us sometimes, and we do the same to them, but they're always there to support us. And in the end, while it may not seem like it, I think they want what's best for our interest. I know people my age will move on from their parents no matter what, which is fine, since I know someday we'll all have to do it. All I'm saying is to be there for your parents when they need it, and to appreciate the time you have with them because the older you get, the harder it is for things to work out. I'm not always in the mood to be around my parents, but I never question my being there for them. I just hope the older I get, they can count on me, the way I've always counted on them.

My Dad, The Superhero
There's a saying that ordinary people can't be superheroes, which if you think about in the comic book/film/TV world, is true, but if you think about it in the real world, we have superheroes around us all the time. There's cops, firefighters, teachers, and in my case, my dad. He's doesn't have a job like the ones I just mentioned, and he isn't Superman or Batman, but he's always there for my family, which is superhero enough for me.
Point in case is my recent bout with illness. I complained to my dad about it yesterday because I wasn't feeling well, but it was his day off and his birthday. The last thing he probably wanted to do was take me to the doctor, but he did after I kept nagging him, and after he saw how seriously ill I was. I kept saying I told you so, but he held up a good face. And he bought me all the medicine and things I needed to feel better, which is already starting to pay off (the strep throat feels like it's weakening). My dad may be 60 now, but he's still my superhero, and even though I don't always remember to say it, I want to say thanks and that I love him.
With this post, I want to post up an episode of Boy Meets World that reminds me of my dad. It's a very funny episode, yet strong because it shows the roles dad's play, and how important their relationship is with their children. My dad and I are older than before, but I'm glad we are still close. Anyways, here's the episode. Enjoy!

Happy Father's Day!
Usually when I don't blog for a few days, I come back with a lot to say, but not today. Today, I'm going to enjoy my time at home with my dad because today is Father's Day! So in honor of all the dad's and father figure's out there, this day is for you, for teaching us so many things we couldn't have on our own, and for always being there. Happy Father's Day everybody!

Happy Anniversary!
I finished finals and school today, which is reason enough to celebrate, but I found out recently that today is my parent's 27th wedding anniversary, which is a momentous occasion. It seems like yesterday my sibling's and I were young children, but here we are, all basically young adults. We've changed, but something that hasn't isn't the bond my parents have. Even though I don't show it all the time, I am grateful for everything, and just want to take this small amount of time to say HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Here's hoping to many more!
