Finding and Making Time

There's a common phrase that is said that, "If you love or want something, enough, you make time for it".  And that is something I wholeheartedly agree with.  I mean, who wouldn't want more things they love in their life?  For me, it would be difficult in choosing the things I love, per se; the word love has dumbfounded people since the beginning of time.  But one thing I do love and have a passion for is writing.  Since I was a kid, I always did, which shocks people because who likes doing extra work as a kid?  But I did; I remember vividly being excited for writing assignments, sharing, and trying something new.  And once I got older, actually creating something, whether an essay or a novel (like I am trying right now).  The process is so frustrating, but when it works, few things are more satisfying.

The funny thing is that now that I am done with school, you'd think that I would have more time to write, but it's quite the opposite.  I work full time, now, which takes up a quarter of the day, then have to do other things, like eat, sleep, chores, exercise, and all the other daily things life likes to throw at me.  It's an exhausting daily process, and by the time I'm done or have a second of spare time, the last thing I want to do is write.  But I guess that is something I need to work on.  Because writing is a passion of mine, and one of my dreams is to have a published novel and tell my story, but it's so difficult to do on a daily basis.  I thought school was a hard enough obstacle, but once you clear one, new ones appear.  And that is the case this time.  I want this bad enough, so I guess I have to make the time.  But it just makes me marvel at people more who have to do so much, yet have so little time.  How do they do it?

All I can say is, I wish we had more hours in the day.  Or that life was a little easier so we could all take a breather.

Sleep and Weather

When it comes to Summer, there aren't many things I like about it.  I like the nice weather because it gives me many opportunities to spend time with friends, but I hate the weather which makes me fatigued and sweaty.  To counter that, I usually turn on my air conditioner, but that doesn't work all the time, especially when I'm sleeping.  It can be cool in a room, but if it's too cold, I'll wake up, which can also make me sick in the process.  I could counter all that by turning off the air conditioner, but then I'd be hot again.  As you can see, I have all these issues (if you can call them that), and they're making me go to sleep and wake up at obscene hours.  Hence why I'm awake blogging now.  I can't predict the future, but I hope my sleep pattern gets fixed.  Otherwise, this summer is going to be longer than it already feels.

Time To Breathe And Heal

A whole week of school hasn't technically gone by, but my first week of classes is over, so I'm counting that as a whole week of school done with.  Only 13 weeks of school to go.  I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I can't help it; this first week of school has been so long and rough.  It felt like it would never end, but now that it's Friday, I finally have some time to reflect back on the past few days.

Tuesday was difficult since it was the first day and everything that could've went wrong happened.  I had to get a book from the bookstore, but while I was walking there, I slipped on ice, and scabbed both my hands trying to break my fall.  They weren't bad, but they were definitely bleeding, so I had to clean them up.  After that, I rented the book I needed, but missed the bus in the process.  I only had 40 minutes until class, so I walked over to the other campus in the single digit degree weather, which stunk.  I got to my classes, which weren't so bad, but they definitely seemed like they'd be a lot of work.  Luckily, all the professors seemed cool/nice.  Then later on in the day, I tried going to my Spanish class in a new building, but my ID didn't work, so I was locked in the cold, until someone came and let me in.  It was a terrible first day, accentuated by the cold and the concern I had about my classes.

Day 2 was better since I only had one class, which gave me time to relax and get ahead on reading, which I found very interesting.  My Intimate Partner Violence class I'm taking has some subject matter that make me uncomfortable, and some very long assignments, but the class seems interesting, and is definitely doable if I do the work, which I know it can do.  I didn't feel amazing day 2, but after switching my schedule around, I felt better, which carried over into Day 3 yesterday, where I had the best day of class so far.  I took notes, passed a quiz, participated in class, and didn't freeze to death.  I'm already tired of school after only a few days, but it's times like this that I'm glad I have some time to stop, breathe, and heal.  I need it.

Unproductive Day

Being a busy person (like everyone else in the world), I understand that some days I have my "A" game and other days I don't.  When I don't, I like to think that I'm still a little productive, but today, that wasn't the case.  Despite the fact I was up early, walked to the bank, ate food, and ordered textbooks for my upcoming semester, the day was still a waste for me since I slept for a majority of it.  And when I say majority, I mean half of it.  I suppose sleeping in isn't a terrible thing, especially because I usually never do, but since I only have one full week left of break, I want to experience it to the fullest, which I can't do if I'm sleeping.

Today was an unproductive day for me, but hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

Naps

Waiting for my finals to come is a long and draining process, especially in this snowy weather, which has basically trapped me in my room.  With that being the case, besides watching shows on my laptop, I've been napping almost everyday.  I suppose it's a good thing, but to me, I see it as a negative because there's a myth that you gain weight if you nap/sleep often.  That may just be something I was told when I was obese, but it's something that has stuck with me my whole life.  Naps are good, especially in college, but everyone knows there is a time when you have to wake up and face life.  On weekends like this though, where the weather sucks, I don't think there is anything wrong napping and staying warm.

Hope things improve outside, but until then, I guess I'll take another nap.  Wake me up when this storm is over.

Pesky Sleep Habits

As I'm awake way earlier than I usually am, I can't help wishing I was asleep like most people, but I can't help it.  Lately, I've had trouble sleeping for whatever reason.  I go to sleep early, and I wake up early, or when I sleep late, I still wake up early.  Every time it happens, I can't go back to sleep, almost as if I have insomnia.  I'm not surprised this happens since weird sleeping habits run in my family, but it's a struggle when you have to go to school, or just need a good night's sleep to get over what's on your mind.  I'm hoping my habits change, but at the same time, I'm hoping whatever is on my mind takes a break.  I've had enough stress as it is, and don't need lack of sleep to be one of the new contributing problems.  Life is tough, but at least I can say, only 3 months left of school.

"Sleep On It"

We've all heard the term "Sleep on it" before.  It's a term something someone says to a person when there's something wrong because sleeping usually makes a person feel better.  But the more I think about it, why is that?  If you're tense when you go to sleep, your body heats up, which is why it's difficult to sleep when it's hot around you.  Also, it's been said that sleeping when you are thinking about someone or feeling negative will cause you to dream (something I can't really confirm though, since dreams represent so many various things).  Case in point, I had a terrible day yesterday because of a school issue, and I had a tough time falling asleep, but once it happened, it happened quickly, and when I woke up, I felt refreshed and better.  I wonder why that is?  Does rest really help that much, or is it something more, such as something psychological?  As much as I want to know, I know I can't figure it out now, so I'm gonna have to sleep on it and get back to you.
